Reputed crime boss gunned down in northern Israel

Yanis Yushvaev, a reputed organized crime figure who was a prominent intelligence target for Israeli police, was shot and killed Sunday afternoon at a gas station near the Caesarea interchange in northern Israel. According to police, Yushvaev, who was in his 40s, was critically wounded in the shooting and pronounced dead at the scene despite resuscitation efforts by emergency medical technicians. Israel Police stated that an investigation into the incident, which appears to be criminally motivated, is underway. Israel Police Commissioner Danny Levy arrived at the scene to conduct an assessment, and an extensive manhunt involving a police helicopter and roadblocks is currently underway to locate the suspects who fled the scene. Yushvaev had been a major intelligence target for police in the Coastal District and Hadera in recent years and had been arrested multiple times. Last year, he was detained in connection with gunfire targeting a businessman's property and suspected involvement in the arson of numerous vehicles. Earlier this year, Yushvaev was arrested at Ben Gurion International Airport upon his return from Russia.
