Griffin Dunne: I Seem to Be the King of Lapsed Love

Griffin Dunne, the acclaimed actor and director who is set to receive the Indie Star Award at Poland's TAURON American Film Festival, spoke to Variety about the renewed appreciation for his past work. Regarding 'Practical Magic,' which recently spawned a sequel, he noted: 'It’s the second movie I’ve been involved with that wasn’t as popular at the time as it became years later. It was the same deal with An American Werewolf in London. It’s lovely to see people appreciate it now, but it would have been sweeter to have it happen then too. I seem to be the king of lapsed love!' Dunne also expressed concern over corporate mergers in Hollywood, fearing they stifle independent storytelling and reduce the courage to produce films that might challenge contemporary political sensitivities. He also reflected on his family memoirs and his experiences in Poland during the 1980 Solidarity movement.
