Jerusalem Post: UN helped Iran expand anti-drug crackdown despite execution concerns

The Jerusalem Post reports that the United Nations has assisted the Islamic Republic of Iran in expanding its anti-drug operations by providing relevant technology. This cooperation continues despite widespread concerns regarding the link between these operations and the use of capital punishment in Iran. According to UN data, seizures of methamphetamine in Iran increased from 30,393 kilograms in 2022 to 40,453 kilograms in 2025. The report states that technology provided by international bodies has played a direct role in this increase. Critics and human rights organizations have repeatedly warned against international cooperation with Iranian security apparatuses that leads to the arrest and execution of individuals charged with drug-related offenses.
