Financial Times Report: Iran Weighs Potential Targets in Europe Amid Rising Tensions

The Financial Times reported on Wednesday that Iran is considering expanding the scope of potential attacks to European soil should tensions escalate into a military conflict with the United States under President Donald Trump. According to the report, Iranian forces have identified potential targets in Southeast Europe, specifically in Bulgaria. This assessment follows Bulgaria's decision last month to authorize the use of an airbase for American refueling operations. In addition to Bulgaria, Cyprus is also reportedly being considered as a target. In March, the British airbase at Akrotiri in Cyprus was struck by a drone attack, which Western officials attributed to Iranian-backed proxy groups, though not launched directly from Tehran. Simultaneously, reports indicate that Iranian officials are evaluating options to damage undersea fiber-optic cables in the Strait of Hormuz. These considerations come as the belief grows among senior regime officials that a renewal of hostilities with the United States is only a matter of time.
