Dozens of Israeli police officers to secure Uman pilgrimage

Ahead of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, Israel Police has launched an extensive operation to secure the journey of Breslov Hasidim traveling to Uman, Ukraine. Approximately 45,000 worshippers from around the world, including 35,000 Israeli citizens, are expected to visit the gravesite of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. Due to the closure of Ukrainian airspace amid the ongoing war, travelers must land in neighboring countries—such as Romania, Moldova, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Bulgaria—before completing their journey via lengthy overland routes. For the first time on this scale, Israel Police is deploying over 40 officers to Ukraine, Romania, and key transit points. These teams will accompany travelers, assist with translation and interactions with local authorities, and work to prevent incidents. According to a report by Ynet, the force size may be increased if necessary. Alongside the police, Israel's Foreign Ministry will station dozens of diplomats at airports and along travel routes to provide comprehensive assistance.
