Rising tensions between Israel and Turkey in Syria following the fall of the Assad regime

Israeli strikes in Syria, which have continued following the fall of the Bashar Al Assad regime, have taken on a new dimension after targeting the Abu Al Duhur military airfield in Idlib. Israeli officials alleged that Turkey had stationed troops at the base, a claim dismissed by both Syria and Turkey. Tom Barrack, the US special envoy to Syria, described the strikes as deeply concerning and unnecessary. While the government of President Ahmad Al Shara is seeking stability with its neighbours with Washington's support, the competition between Israel and Turkey for influence in post-Assad Syria continues to challenge diplomatic efforts to defuse tensions. Talks between Israel and Syria, mediated by the US, have resumed in Jordan.
