Increased pressure on UNRWA; UN Watch report highlights failure to implement reforms

Pressure on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has intensified following a new report from UN Watch. The report challenges UNRWA's claim that it has completed 41 of the 50 reforms recommended by former French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, stating that at most 13 of these reforms have been fully implemented. Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, criticized the agency, stating that UNRWA has merely counted draft policies or pilot programs as completed reforms. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has recently amplified reports regarding a U.S. government investigation into alleged ties between more than 100 current and former UNRWA employees and Hamas. UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric defended the agency, stating that UNRWA is implementing the Colonna recommendations and that the process is not merely administrative. However, the UN Watch report maintains that issues such as staff vetting and the removal of inflammatory educational content remain unresolved.
