According to a report by Walla citing The New York Times, Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest man, has added over $5 billion to his fortune since the outbreak of hostilities in February. This financial surge is driven by his $20 billion refinery in Lagos, which reached full capacity just before the start of US and Israeli strikes on Iran. With shipping routes in the Persian Gulf constrained and oil supplies tightened, Dangote's refinery has become a primary fuel source for markets in Africa, Europe, and the US. Economic data shows the refinery became the world's largest jet fuel exporter in the spring and was the largest supplier of diesel and jet fuel to Europe last month. While Dangote prepares for the largest public offering in the continent's history on the Nigerian stock exchange, he faces domestic criticism. Nigerian citizens, who hoped the local refinery would lower costs, are instead facing rising prices, fueling public anger over the billionaire's monopolistic power.
