Israel Airports Authority targets union chairman following Ben Gurion chaos

Two days after the surprise strike and subsequent chaos at Ben Gurion International Airport, the Israel Airports Authority is intensifying measures against union chairman Pinchas Idan. Yiftah Ron-Tal, chairman of the authority's board, has requested legal counsel to examine the cancellation of Idan's extraordinary term extension, which was approved three months ago. Simultaneously, the authority announced the dismissal of Idan’s aide, Reuven Nakar, following revelations that he had been logging hours without actually working. An investigation by the Civil Service Commission into the matter is ongoing. In response, Idan has filed a petition with the Labor Court, claiming that porters are forced to work 12-hour shifts, six days a week, and asserting that the union is not responsible for the strike. The Airports Authority has rejected these claims, insisting that the early departure of porters was the primary cause of the recent disruptions.
