Israel relocates attack helicopter squadron to Ramat David airbase in the north

The Israeli Air Force has completed a strategic relocation of its 190th attack helicopter squadron, moving operations from Ramon Airbase in the Negev to Ramat David Airbase in northern Israel. This move follows an internal Air Force investigation into operational failures during the October 7th massacre. The relocation is intended to improve response times and ensure greater readiness along Israel’s northern border. During the events of October 7th, air crews faced exceptionally complex conditions while attempting to assist ground forces and civilians amidst an unclear operational picture. As a result of lessons learned, the IDF decided to position attack helicopters closer to the northern front. The Air Force emphasized the critical role of these aircraft in modern, rapidly developing battlefield situations. A squadron crew member stated that there is no substitute for these helicopters, noting their effectiveness during dark nights and extreme weather. He added that the current system is well-oiled and provides significantly higher levels of fire support to ground forces than in previous years, with the primary goal remaining the security of the state and the protection of its borders.
