Carrier Pidge messaging app prioritises patience over speed

In a world saturated with instant notifications, a new messaging app called Carrier Pidge is offering a slower alternative. The platform delivers messages at the speed of a virtual pigeon, meaning delivery time depends on the physical distance between the sender and recipient. "The waiting is the point," the app's website states. For instance, a message sent from Washington to the UAE takes approximately three days to arrive. Messages are carried by a virtual pigeon flying at 177kph, and users can track the bird's journey. The app introduces elements of uncertainty, with a 0.2 per cent chance of a message getting lost, which the developer describes as making every message a "small adventure." Developer Noah Iarrobino notes that the app aims to remove the pressure of instant replies and read receipts. Launched in April, the app has reached 140,000 downloads on iOS, with an Android version expected to launch soon.
