Rare August rain to hit Israel through Sunday morning

The Israel Meteorological Service has reported that rare rainfall is expected across parts of Israel through Sunday morning, describing the weather as unusual for the month of August. Localized rain began around midday Saturday in northern Israel and is expected to spread to central regions overnight. While thunderstorms are possible, officials noted a slight risk of localized flooding along the northern and central coastal plain. Dr. Amir Givati, director of the Israel Meteorological Service, stated that a more powerful rain system previously anticipated would remain over the Mediterranean, resulting in lower precipitation levels than initially expected. Temperatures are forecast to drop, particularly in mountainous and inland areas, easing heat stress. The rain is expected to taper off by Sunday afternoon, with temperatures set to rise again by Tuesday, when heat stress is expected to intensify across most of the country.
