Tesla driver questioned by police after being caught asleep at the wheel

A video circulating on social media showing a Tesla driver apparently asleep while his vehicle was in motion has sparked widespread attention. According to Channel 12 News, police questioned the 36-year-old driver from Migdal HaEmek on suspicion of careless driving and failing to maintain control of the steering wheel. He was released following the questioning. The footage, which shows the driver with his eyes closed and head tilted forward, has reignited public debate regarding the distinction between Tesla's advanced driver-assistance systems and fully autonomous driving. Israeli police stressed that despite the available technology, the driver remains fully responsible for operating the vehicle at all times. Authorities reiterated that Israeli law requires drivers to keep their hands on the wheel, maintain control of the vehicle, and remain alert. Police further clarified that current driver-assistance systems do not constitute autonomous driving and do not permit drivers to relinquish responsibility while the vehicle is in motion.
