Colorado man awaiting trial for wife’s death jailed after hit-and-run

Barry Morphew, a Colorado man awaiting trial for the alleged murder of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, was arrested Friday following a hit-and-run crash in Denver. Prosecutors stated that Morphew was involved in a collision with two other vehicles and fled the scene. Morphew, who had been free on a $3 million bond, was restricted from traveling outside his home in southern Colorado except for work or limited circumstances. District Attorney Anne Kelly noted in a court filing that Morphew’s trip to Denver International Airport for reasons other than work constituted a breach of his bond. Suzanne Morphew disappeared in 2020, and her skeletal remains were discovered on a dirt road in 2023. Prosecutors allege that traces of wildlife tranquilizers were found in her bone marrow, noting that Morphew was the only person in the area authorized to use such chemicals. Morphew has pleaded not guilty, and his trial is scheduled for next summer.
