Two children hospitalized in Israel after consuming chocolate containing hallucinogenic mushrooms

Two children, aged five and six, were rushed to the Galilee Medical Center on Sunday after consuming chocolate containing hallucinogenic mushrooms during a family vacation. Upon arrival, the children exhibited severely dilated pupils and were experiencing active hallucinations. Following consultation with the National Poison Information Center, medical staff identified the cause as poisoning from Psilocybe or Panaeolus mushrooms, which can trigger elevated blood pressure, seizures, and cardiac complications. Dr. Sally Mahoum, a physician at the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Center, stated that the children arrived in a state of confusion and were admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit for close observation. Dr. Tzvi Sheleg, deputy director of the medical center, described the incident as life-threatening and urged the public to keep dangerous substances out of the reach of children and to seek immediate medical help if poisoning is suspected.
