Tadej Pogačar hospitalized following terrifying crash at Vuelta a España

Tadej Pogačar, the Slovenian star of UAE Team Emirates, posted a photo from the hospital on Sunday showing him wearing a neck brace with bandages on his face and hand. The five-time Tour de France champion was forced to withdraw from the Vuelta a España a day earlier following a terrifying crash. He accompanied his Instagram post with the Bee Gees' classic track 'Stayin’ Alive'. According to the Associated Press, Pogačar was thrown over his handlebars after apparently losing control when a stone rolled onto the road. He suffered a concussion and two broken bones, and is expected to undergo surgery. The Slovenian star held a significant lead and was the heavy favorite to win the title and complete a sweep of cycling's three Grand Tours. This was Pogačar's tenth Grand Tour and the first he has failed to finish; he had never previously finished below third place. The three-week Vuelta concludes in Granada on September 13.
