Trump Announces ‘Economic D-Day’ Against Iran

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday via his Truth Social platform that Washington is launching the "most crushing economic operation" ever taken against any country. Trump dubbed the move an "Economic D-Day," asserting that it would result in unprecedented economic warfare and isolation for Iran. He further warned that any country or financial institution providing a lifeline to Iran would face "massive economic consequences."

Stating that Iran had failed to seize previous opportunities for a deal, Trump added, "Oil smuggling, cash transfers, and shell companies must stop now." He claimed these new measures would paralyze Iran's ability to spread terrorism and reiterated that Iran would never possess a nuclear weapon.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Trump's "Economic D-Day" would only lead to another defeat for the United States.

Media reports, including from CNN, indicate that the Trump administration has shifted its strategy from direct military threats to creating an "economic stranglehold." According to these reports, Trump has ordered the cessation of talks with Iranian envoys and is pursuing long-term pressure to force a change in Tehran's behavior. Trump also addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the naval blockade remains in place and that all sea mines have been cleared.

In a separate message, the US President claimed that Tehran wants a deal, but not the kind he deems necessary. Referring to past operations involving B-2 bombers, he suggested that it would take Iran a long time to build a nuclear weapon. Trump also declined to comment when asked about the potential extension of existing memoranda of understanding.
