Trump Intensifies Economic Pressure on Iran and Warns International Enablers

U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a new phase in his economic pressure campaign against the Islamic Republic, dubbed an 'Economic D-Day,' aimed at completely severing Iran's financial lifelines. Trump stated that the U.S. will not limit itself to direct sanctions on Tehran but will act against any international entity or nation that assists Iran in remaining financially afloat. According to the White House, countries must choose between conducting business with Iran or maintaining access to the U.S. financial system and market.
This new strategy specifically targets China, which reportedly receives over 80 percent of Iranian oil exports. The U.S. administration has already begun imposing sanctions on private Chinese refineries purchasing Iranian oil and is preparing to extend this pressure to the Chinese banking system that facilitates such trade.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that these tensions are impacting the U.S. domestic economy. Fuel prices in the United States have seen a dramatic surge; the price of a gallon of gasoline has risen by 44 percent, crossing the 4-dollar mark, while diesel prices have jumped 55 percent to 5.45 dollars per gallon. These high energy costs, driven by disruptions in maritime traffic, are permeating the supply chain, logistics, and agriculture, resulting in a higher cost of living for the average American family.
