Kyiv modifies air raid alert system as Norway detains Russian vessel

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the country's air raid alert system will be modified into two levels, 'yellow' and 'red', in response to shifting Russian tactics and increased drone strikes. The yellow level will warn of drone attacks, while the red level will indicate missile threats or large-scale assaults. The decision follows weeks of persistent drone attacks on Kyiv that have disrupted daily life and economic activity.

In a separate development, Norwegian authorities detained a Russian vessel, the 'Professor Molchanov', in the Svalbard archipelago. The action was taken at the request of the Ukrainian state energy company, Naftogaz, and follows a Norwegian court order. The seizure aims to enforce a $4.2 billion compensation ruling against Russia for the seizure of Naftogaz assets following the 2014 annexation of Crimea.

Meanwhile, Russian air strikes continued across Ukraine on Wednesday. Local officials in Dnipro reported two civilian deaths and six injuries. The Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia launched approximately 174 attack drones, including jet-powered models that are difficult to intercept, alongside several ballistic and air-launched missiles.

The strikes occur as Ukraine faces a critical shortage of US-made interceptor missiles needed to defend against Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. In the Odesa region, Russian missile and drone strikes caused power outages for over 350,000 homes. Attacks on Kyiv also damaged residential and university buildings, leaving 11 people injured.
