Diplomatic efforts in Tehran amid fresh Iranian threats against European bases

US President Donald Trump wrote in a post on the Truth social network: "Iran is collapsing completely." Trump is expected to announce further details of what he termed "Economic D-Day" in a press conference. This strategy involves increasing pressure on countries, banks, and companies that continue to conduct business with Iran. Meanwhile, Tehran has hosted Pakistan's army chief, General Asim Munir, and Oman's Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, in recent days. Reuters, citing a Pakistani source, reported that Washington has asked General Munir to use Pakistan's influence to bring Iran back to the negotiating table. Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, emphasized that the two visits are unrelated, stating that Pakistan is mediating between Tehran and Washington, while Oman is focusing on the security of the Strait of Hormuz and freedom of navigation. In another development, Baghaei warned that if European countries allow the US to use their territory for attacks against Iran, those bases would become legitimate targets. These remarks follow a Financial Times report suggesting Iran has considered military options against US assets in Bulgaria and Cyprus. NATO responded by stating it is prepared to address any threat against its members.
