Trump Asks Pakistan Army Chief to Mediate with Iran

According to a Reuters report, US President Donald Trump requested Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir in a phone call last week to use his country's influence to facilitate the resumption of negotiations between Washington and Tehran. The request was made ahead of Munir's trip to Tehran. Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Monday alongside Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The Pakistan Army confirmed the visit, stating it is part of the country's efforts to promote peace and stability in the region. Sources told Reuters that Munir is expected to meet with officials close to the office of the Supreme Leader of Iran during his visit. The goal of these meetings is to reduce mistrust between the two sides. In addition to the nuclear negotiations, the visit is expected to cover recent Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia and the new mutual defense agreement signed between Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
