Russia threatens strikes on UK military targets, ‘catastrophic consequences’ over Ukraine

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned on Thursday that Britain is one step away from becoming legally complicit in what she described as civilian-targeted terrorism. Zakharova stated that failure to abandon this course would bring catastrophic consequences. The warning followed Moscow's accusation that Ukraine used British Storm Shadow missiles to strike a shopping center in Russian-controlled Donetsk. Zakharova reiterated that any British military installations and equipment in Ukraine and beyond its borders could be targeted in response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory using British weapons. In response, a spokesperson for the British Ministry of Defense stated that London stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine and remains committed to providing the equipment needed to defend against President Vladimir Putin's illegal invasion. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, during a recent visit to Kyiv, condemned Russia's threats and asserted that British support for Ukraine would not waver. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has accused the U.K. of pouring fuel on the fire.
