US Senate narrowly rejects measure to block Iran military action without Congress

The measure had previously passed the House of Representatives in July. The vote largely followed party lines, with most Democrats supporting the resolution and most Republicans opposing it in alignment with President Donald Trump. Four Republican senators—Rand Paul, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Thom Tillis—broke ranks to vote in favor of the measure, while Senator John Fetterman was the only Democrat to vote against it. This vote marks the 14th time the Senate has considered a war powers resolution since the conflict with Iran began on February 28. Last week, the House of Representatives also approved a measure directing President Trump to end the US military conflict with Iran, a vote that saw support from seven Republicans.
