Three minutes of daily physical activity may reduce the risk of 13 types of cancer

According to a study published in July, just three minutes of intense daily physical activity, such as quickly climbing and descending stairs, can reduce the risk of 13 types of cancer associated with sedentary behavior by up to 7%. The study, which tracked data from approximately 60,000 individuals over eight years, indicates that any movement contributes to lowering this risk. John J. Mitchell, lead researcher from University College London, emphasizes that daily activities like brisk walking or playing with children offer similar benefits. The findings suggest that more intense activities are highly effective, with three minutes of vigorous movement providing the same cancer-risk reduction as 90 minutes of light activity. Conversely, researchers warn that prolonged sitting, comparable to the risks of obesity and smoking, increases the likelihood of mortality and disease. Additionally, a study from McGill University in Canada suggests that posture affects mood and decision-making, noting that sitting upright may lead to more effective and wiser choices.
