Jerusalem municipality shuts down Shabbat coffee stand

According to the Times of Israel, Jerusalem municipal inspectors shut down a volunteer-run coffee stand operating on Shabbat. Volunteers from the liberal group Hitorerut reported that inspectors told them they had received orders from higher-up officials to close the stall. The stand was located near Cafe Basimta, an establishment that recently bowed to pressure from Haredi protesters and ceased operations on the Jewish day of rest. Adi Koll, head of Hitorerut, stated: 'Violence closed Cafe Basimta, but failed to close Jerusalem.' The incident highlights ongoing tensions between secular and religious groups regarding the enforcement of religious observance in public spaces across the city.
