Rubio: Iran is fundamentally misreading the American political system

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the Iranian regime is fundamentally misreading the American political system if it believes that the November midterm elections could prevent President Donald Trump from continuing his actions against Tehran. Drawing on his 14 years of experience in the US Senate, Rubio acknowledged the importance of the legislative branch but stressed that the presidency retains extraordinary powers regarding national security, the imposition of sanctions, and the use of military force. Rubio stated that President Trump views preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon as a national security priority rather than a partisan issue, and is prepared to take steps that his predecessors did not. He argued that while confronting the Iranian nuclear threat carries costs, the price of inaction would be substantially higher for future generations. Regarding the situation in Gaza, Rubio noted that while the region is in a different place than a year ago, the long-term goal must be a Gaza free of Hamas, governed by a Palestinian leadership that reflects its people and controls the security environment, supported by economic reconstruction to provide opportunities for the population.
