Locked out of WhatsApp: Users suddenly lose access with no warning

WhatsApp users in Israel and around the world are reporting sudden account bans without warning or explanation. Many users state that the lack of access to human customer service makes the recovery process take days, effectively cutting them off from work, family, and educational contacts. The Israel Internet Association has recommended that users back up important information due to these concerns. In August, WhatsApp acknowledged that a technical issue had led to the incorrect banning of many accounts. Meta maintains that it bans millions of accounts monthly to combat spam and scams, but the company's independent Oversight Board has issued criticism regarding the lack of transparency and the inadequacy of current appeals procedures. As frustration grows, many users are migrating to alternative platforms like Telegram and Signal to avoid the risk of being suddenly disconnected from their networks by automated systems.
