Two US officials confirmed the authenticity of the letter, which was dated Sunday. Major General Brandon Tegtmeyer and Command Sergeant Major James Bradshaw stated in the letter that they do not take this decision lightly, acknowledging the significant burden placed on families. These developments follow escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, marked by reciprocal strikes involving Iran's targeting of US forces in Jordan and the UAE, and US strikes on missile sites on Larak Island. President Donald Trump told Fox News on Monday that the US would respond forcefully to the attacks. Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the goal of new economic sanctions is to create conditions that make Iran willing to return to the negotiating table.
