Ben Gurion Airport union warns of severe staffing shortages ahead of holiday rush

The Israel Airports Authority workers' union has issued a warning regarding acute staffing shortages at Ben Gurion Airport. According to the union, the facility requires between 400 and 500 additional personnel to meet operational demands, citing management failures and recruitment difficulties as primary causes. The shortages span critical departments including airport operations, firefighting, security, transportation, and baggage handling. The union reported that current staff are working between 220 and 260 hours per month to compensate for the gaps. Furthermore, over 100 employees are currently serving in military reserves, while dozens more are absent due to illness or workplace injuries. This warning follows recent labor disputes that caused widespread delays and political backlash. The union stated that urgent intervention is required to ensure adequate service levels during the upcoming busy holiday travel period.
