Dubai Police issue warning over online visa and job scams

Dubai Police issued a renewed warning on Tuesday regarding the threat of online fraudsters who claim to offer jobs and visas in exchange for cash. The force noted that scammers are increasingly using social media and messaging apps while posing as official bodies or unlicensed companies to deceive victims. As part of its 'Be Aware of Fraud' campaign, the police urged the public to complete all visa and employment transactions through official channels only. Authorities advised people to exercise caution and avoid being misled by false promises of employment or residency obtained through illegal means. Suspicious activity can be reported via the Dubai Police smart app, the eCrime platform, or by calling 901. Official guidance states that job offers must be issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) and signed by an authorised manager. Applicants are advised to verify the validity of job offers using reference numbers on the MOHRE website. It was further clarified that visit or tourist visas do not grant the right to work in the UAE, and doing so results in fines and legal liability. Under UAE Labour Law, employers are responsible for recruitment expenses, and residency visas cannot be processed for applicants while they are outside the country.
