Tehran Responds Formally to US Proposal Mediated by Pakistan Regarding Strait of Hormuz

Tehran issued a formal response on Tuesday to a new US proposal mediated by Pakistan aimed at resolving the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Tasnim News Agency, Iran has set strict conditions for reopening the strait. These developments follow the visit of Pakistan's Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, to Tehran on Sunday, where he acted as a primary mediator between the Trump administration and Iranian leadership. A source close to the Iranian negotiating team clarified that the Pakistani commander did not carry threats, but rather sought to create space for new negotiations. Iran's central condition is a full US return to the memorandum of understanding known as the 'Islamabad Agreement' and the implementation of all its clauses, with particular emphasis on Article 5 regarding security arrangements and maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. While the US has proposed a framework including the gradual removal of the maritime blockade and sanctions relief in exchange for opening the strait, Iran remains firm in demanding full US commitment to previous agreements and a change in Washington's behavior. Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, warned that the continuation of the 'economic war' would not go unanswered and that global energy export security remains under threat as long as the blockade continues. Attention is now focused on Washington's response and the upcoming Shanghai summit in Kyrgyzstan, which may determine the fate of a potential deal.
