Syrian FM: Security talks with Israel expected to resume soon

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani told Reuters that he expects security negotiations with Israel to resume in the near future. The talks had been suspended following an Israeli strike on the Abu al-Duhur airbase. Emphasizing that Damascus lacks trust in Israel, Shaibani stated that communication with a party that threatens Syrian security is only necessary if it yields results. He added that the United States is continuously working to pressure the sides to return to the negotiating table. According to Shaibani, the proposed security arrangement includes a halt to Israeli strikes in Syria and an Israeli withdrawal from territories captured following the fall of Bashar al-Assad. However, he accused Israel of lacking the genuine will to reach an agreement and continuing to rely on military force. Meanwhile, US special envoy for Syria Tom Barrack is seeking to establish a mechanism to prevent clashes between Israel, Syria, and Turkey, though Shaibani noted that no such agreement has been reached yet.
