Deadly mudslides and flash floods strike Nepal-China border

Video footage from the border region between Nepal and China in Tibet captures the terrifying moment mudslides and flash floods engulfed buildings in Gyirong. According to Reuters and data from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the disaster occurred just seven minutes after a 4.4-magnitude earthquake. Authorities in Nepal believe the quake triggered an ice-rock avalanche that flowed into the Lhende Khola River. At least 95 deaths have been confirmed, and Nepal's tourism authority reports that 484 tourists are missing, including several U.S. citizens. The U.S. State Department stated it is monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with local authorities to assist affected Americans. Meanwhile, China has deployed 574 rescuers to the site, while India and the European Union have offered humanitarian assistance. Local officials have warned of the potential for a second flood due to a blockage in the Lhende Khola River.
