Fed up with soaring rent, Israeli turns an 11-square-meter caravan into a home on wheels

Yam Netz, a 30-year-old Israeli, decided to pursue a different lifestyle after facing the high costs of the housing market. He purchased an 11-square-meter caravan shell for 30,000 shekels and spent an additional 60,000 shekels on materials and equipment to build a mobile home for himself and his dog. Netz, who now resides in Australia, says this experience allowed him to live in various locations across Israel, from Eilat to the Mediterranean coast, without the stress of traditional moving.

The project, which took four months to construct, focused on space optimization and the use of lightweight wood to stay within a 1,500-kilogram weight limit. Netz emphasized that before designing, he created a detailed list of his daily activities to ensure the interior layout matched his needs. He noted that living in such a small space forced him to declutter and gain a new perspective on the concept of home.

Netz, who is now renting out the caravan in Israel for 2,500 shekels per month, noted that the biggest challenge for future tenants is finding a legal place to park and live in it. He believes this lifestyle fosters a deeper connection with nature and eliminates the difficulties of conventional moving. He currently has little desire to return to traditional concrete structures and continues to work on designing and building tiny homes.
