Israel to spend NIS 250,000 to settle spelling debate over Petah Tikva

The Israeli government has allocated a budget of NIS 250,000 to resolve the ongoing debate regarding the correct Latin-alphabet spelling of the city of Petah Tikva. Currently, the city's name appears on road signs in various forms, including 'Petah Tikva' and 'Petah Tiqwa,' leading to confusion for drivers and travelers. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Academy of the Hebrew Language to establish a single, standardized spelling. The initiative aims to eliminate linguistic inconsistencies across Israel's road network and ensure uniformity in official signage.
