BBC to broadcast at least 20 Welsh Premier League games per season

BBC Wales has reached an agreement with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) to broadcast live matches from the Cymru Premier over the next three seasons. Under the deal, at least 20 matches per season will be available on BBC iPlayer, with additional coverage provided via the BBC Sport website. The first match under the new agreement will feature Barry Town United against Cardiff Met on Saturday 15 August at 12:30 BST, with both teams having started their seasons with two wins. A match between Ammanford and Connah's Quay Nomads will follow on Saturday 22 August at the same time. Caroline Hitchen, head of sport at BBC Wales, stated that the deal reinforces their commitment to live Welsh football, following the recent announcement that all Wales men's national team matches will be broadcast until Euro 2028. She added that the move provides more sports coverage on free-to-air television for Welsh football fans. The Cymru Premier, formed in 1992, enters its 35th season with a restructured format, moving most fixtures to Friday evenings. The league has expanded from 12 to 16 teams, with Llandudno, Airbus UK, Holywell Town, Trethomas Bluebirds, Cambrian United, and Ammanford joining the competition. Jack Sharp, head of domestic leagues at the FAW, expressed satisfaction at the BBC's return to covering domestic club football through this three-year partnership. He noted that the agreement doubles the number of free-to-air broadcasts compared to last season, helping to raise the profile of the Cymru Premier and improve accessibility for fans across Wales and the UK. Sharp added that the initiative, which complements the existing RedWall+ streaming service, aims to boost public awareness, attract new audiences, and support the growth of the domestic game.
