Anti-Israel Democrat wins upset in Florida Senate primary in latest victory for DSA

Angie Nixon, a Florida state representative backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), secured an upset victory in the Democratic primary for a US Senate seat, defeating the favorite, Alex Vindman. Nixon, who has previously advocated for a ceasefire in Gaza, will face Republican incumbent Ashley Moody in the November general election.

Elsewhere in Florida, several Jewish and pro-Israel candidates, including Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Jared Moskowitz, successfully secured their party nominations for Congress. These candidates defeated anti-Zionist challengers in districts with significant Jewish populations.

In the Republican primaries, far-right Rep. Randy Fine secured a landslide victory against influencer Dan Bilzerian. The race was marked by controversy, as Bilzerian faced widespread condemnation for antisemitic rhetoric and positive references to Adolf Hitler.

Meanwhile, in the race for Florida governor, voters will choose between two pro-Israel candidates in November: Republican Byron Donalds and Democrat David Jolly. Donalds, who is seeking to replace Governor Ron DeSantis, has received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
