White House Announces $70 Million in Grants to Prevent Youth Substance Abuse

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) announced nearly $70 million in Fiscal Year 2026 grant awards to strengthen community-based efforts to prevent youth substance use. This funding aligns with President Trump’s National Drug Control Strategy, which aims to promote a healthy, drug-free life for American youth. Of the total, approximately $66 million is allocated through the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program, while $3.8 million is provided via the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) Local Drug Crisis Program. ONDCP Director Sara Carter stated that the initiative is designed to equip parents, schools, law enforcement, and local leaders with the tools necessary to prevent substance use before it begins. According to official data, more than 500 community coalitions nationwide currently participate in these programs, providing preventative services to millions of middle and high school students. Beyond traditional substances, 75% of these coalitions are now focusing on emerging threats, including fentanyl and methamphetamine.
