Jeff Bezos-led consortium in talks for 30% stake in Liverpool FC

A consortium featuring Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has advanced negotiations to acquire approximately 30% of Liverpool Football Club, according to reports from BBC Sport. The group is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), confirmed last month that the consortium had expressed interest in a 'strategic minority investment' in the club. Bhatia, the son-in-law of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, served as a director and co-owner of Queens Park Rangers for 18 years before divesting his stake last month. Bezos, the 62-year-old American entrepreneur, is currently ranked as the world's fourth-richest person, with Forbes estimating his wealth at approximately £192 billion ($256 billion). FSG purchased Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million. The group has previously sold a minority stake in the club to the global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity. Should the deal be finalised, it would not constitute a change in majority ownership, and FSG would retain primary control of the club. Financial details and the precise structure of the potential agreement have not yet been disclosed.
