Axios Report: Trump to Meet Gulf Leaders at UN General Assembly

According to an Axios report, US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Gulf leaders in New York next Tuesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The discussions are expected to focus on a post-war strategy regarding Iran and future regional plans. Three sources with direct knowledge told Axios that a broader 'day-after' plan is being developed and is expected to be finalized following the November midterm elections. The meeting is anticipated to include leaders or foreign ministers from the six Gulf Cooperation Council members: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman. The White House has declined to comment on the report. The talks occur as Gulf states hosting US military bases have faced Iranian attacks and economic damage due to disruptions in energy exports. Meanwhile, Trump stated on Wednesday that Tehran is eager to reach a deal with Washington and expressed hope that the conflict is nearing its end. He also alleged that Iran is attempting to prolong the war to influence the outcome of the upcoming US midterm elections.
