The Future of US Military Aid to the Lebanese Army Amid Economic and Political Pressures

According to an Alhurra report, Lebanese Army personnel are facing severe livelihood pressures due to meager salaries, which have impacted their combat capabilities. While Washington has conditioned its financial and military aid on the disarmament of Hezbollah, security sources and experts, including former Lebanese Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, consider it unlikely that the Lebanese Army would engage in a military confrontation with Hezbollah. Nevertheless, US senators have proposed a bill to provide $200 to $300 million in annual aid to the Lebanese Army in exchange for progress on the Hezbollah disarmament file. Military experts emphasize that without US aid, the Lebanese Army would face serious challenges in performing daily duties and maintaining its equipment.
