Rahmanullah Gurbaz leads Afghanistan to victory over Ireland

Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 71 runs to guide Afghanistan to a three-wicket victory over Ireland at Stormont, extending their lead to 2-0 in the five-match one-day international series. After Afghanistan chose to bowl first, Ireland were dismissed for 206 in 46.3 overs. Afghanistan reached their target of 207 for seven in 44.5 overs. The first match of the series was abandoned due to weather. Gavin Hoey was Ireland's standout performer, taking four wickets and scoring 34 runs, but his efforts were insufficient to stop Afghanistan. Rashid Khan and AM Ghazanfar each claimed three wickets; Ghazanfar conceded only 29 runs, while Rashid Khan took the wickets of captain Cade Carmichael, Harry Tector, and Mark Adair for 44 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqi struck early for Afghanistan, dismissing Andrew Balbirnie for seven. Paul Stirling (23) and Carmichael (32) also fell before Ireland could build a significant total. Ghazanfar then removed Lorcan Tucker and Curtis Campher in quick succession. Ireland recovered slightly through Ben White, who scored 20, and a partnership between Hoey and Jay Mundra. The pair scored 36 and 31 respectively, hitting seven boundaries combined, but both were dismissed before the end of the innings. In response, Afghanistan began their chase led by Gurbaz. Ibrahim Zadran (12) and Sediq Atal (27) were dismissed, and Afghanistan captain Rahmat Shah fell early to Adair. Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 22 before becoming Hoey's second wicket. Gurbaz hit five sixes and two fours before being dismissed by Hoey, who also claimed the wicket of Darwish Rasooli for 13. Adair gave Ireland hope by removing Azmatullah Omarzai, but Rashid Khan scored 37 to secure the win. The teams meet again at Stormont on Wednesday. This result marks Afghanistan's eighth consecutive ODI victory against Ireland.
