Billy ‘The Kid’ Loughnane can be new ‘face of racing’ and next Dettori after Godolphin deal
According to The Guardian, Billy Loughnane, Britain’s 20-year-old champion jockey, has taken a major step in his career by signing a retainer to ride in the royal blue colours of Sheikh Mohammed’s global Godolphin operation. Loughnane, who will be contracted alongside William Buick as one of two retained Godolphin jockeys, is being compared to Frankie Dettori due to his prodigious talent and charismatic personality. Greg Wood writes that while Loughnane is carving out his own path, the new contract positions him to compete in the sport's most prestigious Group One events. Having secured the British championship in 2026, along with his first Classic success and a Breeders’ Cup victory, Loughnane now faces increased scrutiny as he aims to thrive at the highest level of international racing.
