Takashi Yamazaki and the Realization of a Childhood Dream in ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’

Takashi Yamazaki, the director and VFX supervisor who won an Oscar for 'Godzilla Minus One', has returned to theaters with the sequel 'Godzilla Minus Zero'. According to Variety, this film, the 38th in the franchise, follows the Shikishima family in 1949. In the interview, Yamazaki explained how he used long lenses to convey the monster's scale for action sequences, including the scene where Godzilla emerges from the water, which required rendering 2 billion water particles. He also noted that featuring King Ghidorah in the film fulfilled his childhood dream of seeing the monster destroy his hometown, Matsumoto City. Yamazaki described the 'zero' in the title as representing the characters' struggle to return to a neutral, ordinary life following previous tragedies.
