US official confirms: Iranian missile attack damaged US warplanes at Jordan air base

A US official confirmed to Reuters on Thursday that an Iranian missile attack on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan resulted in damage to multiple US military aircraft. According to the official, one A-10 Thunderbolt II was struck and lost a wing, while approximately eight F-15 fighter jets sustained minor damage but have since returned to service. The official was confirming an earlier report by CBS regarding the damage. The strike occurred on Tuesday, following US forces' destruction of five Iranian crude oil tankers in retaliation for two ballistic missile attacks by Iran's Revolutionary Guards against a US Navy warship. The US official stated that American forces launched approximately 30 Patriot interceptors to defend against the Iranian missiles. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking to reporters in Ecuador, stated that Washington would continue to respond to Iranian attacks on naval forces while maintaining its economic pressure campaign against Tehran. According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a significant portion of US Patriot interceptor stocks has been utilized since the conflict began in February.
