Trumpism as a Modus Operandi: Insights from Zizek and Fukuyama

Rami Al-Amin writes in a report for Alhurra that Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek, while discussing his new book at George Washington University, argued that to achieve real change, one must turn to 'despair' rather than hope, which he views as a catalyst for passivity. Zizek believes that despite all criticisms, Trumpism has managed to challenge political structures, and the left must learn to exercise executive power decisively. In a similar vein, Francis Fukuyama suggests in his new book that any future US president, in order to overcome bureaucracy and fulfill promises, may be forced to adopt Trump's tools, such as direct executive orders. These analysts argue that Trumpism is no longer just a political movement but has become a 'modus operandi' that future politicians may inevitably need to utilize to bypass bureaucratic deadlocks.
