Iran Threatens to Close Strait of Hormuz in Response to US Economic Campaign

Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, has warned that countries supporting the US economic campaign against Tehran could be treated as participants in a war against Iran. In a social media post, Rezaei stated that if the economic war continues, not a single drop of oil will be exported through the Strait of Hormuz or the Persian Gulf. He added that Iran would regard any country's participation in or support for America's economic pressure as an act of war. Rezaei further threatened that any military action by President Donald Trump would result in a confrontation that would be like an earthquake. President Trump recently announced a major economic campaign against Iran, labeling it an 'economic D-Day' and warning that countries providing economic assistance to Tehran would face consequences. While Trump stated that military options remain on the table, he claimed the US has total control over the region and the Strait of Hormuz. Rezaei maintained that the Strait of Hormuz is currently closed and that its reopening depends on Washington changing its policies and fulfilling its commitments.
