Jeff Bezos and Eduardo Saverin linked to 30% Liverpool FC stake

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin are reportedly on the verge of joining a consortium seeking to acquire a 30 per cent stake in Liverpool FC. The deal is expected to be announced soon by the club's current owner, Fenway Sports Group (FSG). According to Sky News, as reported by Deadline, business editor Mark Kleinman states that negotiations are in the final stages. Initial reports regarding the potential transaction emerged last month. FSG, which also owns the Boston Red Sox, oversees a club that remains one of the most successful in English football, with 20 top-flight league titles. The consortium is led by Amit Bhatia, son-in-law of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. Bhatia was recently a major shareholder and board member at Queens Park Rangers, but divested his stake around the time the first reports of the Liverpool deal surfaced. Deadline has contacted Amazon, Saverin’s B Capital, and Fenway Sports Group for comment. None of the parties have yet issued a statement regarding the reported acquisition.
