Vance: Iran war has entered a new phase of economic pressure

US Vice President JD Vance stated on Thursday during an appearance on The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show that the conflict with Iran has entered a new phase. According to Vance, following the destruction of Iran's conventional military capabilities and nuclear infrastructure, Washington is now prioritizing economic pressure as its most effective tool to prevent Tehran from rebuilding those assets. Vance emphasized that the US objective extends beyond the destruction of existing facilities, aiming to create a reality where Tehran would never attempt to reconstruct them. He noted the diminishing strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz due to new energy infrastructure and suggested that the US intends to force Iran to choose between "economic strangulation" or "a better relationship with the West." These remarks followed President Donald Trump's announcement of a sweeping new economic pressure campaign, which he described as an "economic D-Day." Trump warned on Truth Social that countries providing economic support to Iran would face consequences. Meanwhile, Trump confirmed that no negotiations are currently taking place with the Islamic Republic and that the naval blockade remains in full effect.
