Israel buries last soldier missing from 1982 Battle of Sultan Yacoub

The remains of Sgt. 1st Class Yehuda Katz, the last IDF soldier missing from the 1982 Battle of Sultan Yacoub, were laid to rest on Friday at the Mount of Olives cemetery in Jerusalem. His remains were recovered earlier this week in a joint operation by the IDF and the Mossad. The funeral procession departed from the Kerem B’Yavneh Hesder Yeshiva, where Katz had studied before his military service. The Battle of Sultan Yacoub took place on June 11, 1982, during the First Lebanon War, resulting in 20 Israeli soldiers killed and several listed as missing. The remains of Sgt. 1st Class Zachary Baumel were returned in 2019, and those of Sgt. 1st Class Zvi Feldman were recovered last year. The burial of Katz marks the conclusion of the final missing-soldier case from this battle after 44 years.
